Rented camper for EAA AirVenture. Paid extra for delivery of camper to Camp Scholler. Happy Trails also fetched electric generator from United Rentals, however that transaction was a separate chore and I wasn't pleased with them.
We rented a camper from Happy Trails in early June and would not recommend them to anyone. First, they were very expensive. Any sort of an option cost you extra. It was extra to have use of an awning. They are not open on Sundays – what kind of a camper rental place is not open on Sundays for returns? (One that likes to charge you for an extra night). If you wanted to pay extra for Sunday return, you could do so. The guy who did the walk through with us wasn’t very observant – he walked right by the spare tire, and said, “if you get a flat, just call us, there’s not a spare tire on these campers.” He also said that if we used a whole tank of propane, we should replace it, but if we only used a little, that was ok. Well, if you do go through them – there should be no “gray area” like that, because we did get charged for propane, even though we didn’t use a whole tank. Finally, it took us almost two weeks after returning the camper to get our security deposit back. Lesson learned, we will not be using them again.
While Happy Trails says their hours are extended for AirVenture and while their setup staff does work hard during that period, the office personnel are not hesitant to tell you they're closing at 2 p.m. on Saturday. AirVenture is THE MAJOR economic boost to Oshkosh and as such Happy Trails should be open into the evening daily and on Sunday the weekends before the show starts and afterwards.
